I find the combination of instruments for pierrot ensemble to be very special, allowing for a unique blend of colors and textures. For years I have wanted to write for this instrumentation and finally had the opportunity in the Fall of 2006. After completing T'china Lema'an Haifa, I thoroughly enjoyed writing a very tonal piece. The goal of this work was to portray the beauty of each of these instruments through luscious low registers, long lyrical passages and expressive solos. It is named Ephemera because of how quickly it was written and for its several themes that rapidly come and go, creating a fleeting moment in time.
